Seismic Hazard, Building Vulnerability and Risk Assessment of Pul e Khumri City– Afghanistan
Description :
Afghanistan is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, and Earthquake is one of the most significant natural hazards impacting its civil infrastructure and human activity. The high vulnerability of buildings and low-level prevention and preparedness plans are the reasons that have caused severe damage and loss in the past earthquakes in Afghanistan. Lessons learned from past disasters highlight the importance of undertaking city-wide approaches that integrate improvements to the lives of people with other key policies, plans, key service and mobility infrastructure, and large-scale urban and rural development projects.
The general objectives of this study are to use the state-of-the-art methodology and tools for:
- Development of the seismic hazard map of Pul-e-Khumri City
- Building stock vulnerability and risk assessment of Pul-e-Khumri City
- Risk-sensitive land use plan based on seismic hazard, HVRA studies, and remote sensing analysis of geological and hydro metrological studies (i.e. rock fall, landslide, flood, etc.,) of Pul-e-Khumri City
- Develop the resilience master plan for Pul-e-Khumri City
Two main parts of the project have been done by VestA experts including:
- Seismic Hazard, Building Vulnerability, and Risk Assessment of Pule Khumri City including the development of the Seismicity Model and Vulnerability Function
- Vulnerability analysis of the building for all possible Seismic Hazards
